Key opinion
This 1986 sequel serves as a stylish, high-quality departure from its predecessor, shifting the focus from crude imitation to a refined, deliberate revenge narrative. While it maintains the series' roots in grotesque horror and eroticism, it distinguishes itself through improved performances and a more evocative, shock-driven aesthetic.
| Acting | Seira Kitagawa delivers a convincing, restrained performance that elevates the film above the acting standards of the original. | |
| Direction | Kawabata’s direction offers a significant stylistic upgrade, providing a more polished and vivid aesthetic than the preceding entry. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative effectively transitions from a loose, genre-mimicking structure into a coherent and stylized revenge story. | |
| Theme | The film leans heavily into blatant, Edogawa Rampo-inspired grotesque imagery to provoke and disgust the audience. | |
| Originality | The film functions as a meta-textual experience, effectively utilizing deliberate homages to established classics of horror and body horror. |
