After making their way through high school (twice), big changes are in store for officers Schmidt and Jenko when they go deep undercover at a local college. But when Jenko meets a kindred spirit on the football team, and Schmidt infiltrates the bohemian art major scene, they begin to question their partnership. Now they don't have to just crack the case - they have to figure out if they can have a mature relationship. If these two overgrown adolescents can grow from freshmen into real men, college might be the best thing that ever happened to them.

22 Jump Street is widely regarded as a successful, self-aware comedy that leans heavily into the tropes of sequel filmmaking. While opinions on the repetitive plot are split, the chemistry between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum remains a consistent highlight for audiences.

Acting The lead performances from Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum anchor the film with natural chemistry and effective comedic timing.
Direction The directors successfully utilize meta-humor and self-aware irony to acknowledge and parody the formulaic nature of movie sequels.
Theme The script leans into a 'buddy cop' dynamic that emphasizes friendship and human growth, effectively balancing the absurdity with character-driven moments.
Screenplay Critics are divided on the screenplay's reliance on repetitive plot beats, with some viewing it as a clever subversion and others as lazy, unoriginal filmmaking.
Humor Reception to the humor is polarized, as some viewers appreciate the sharp, self-referential jokes, while others find the reliance on crass, 'low-brow' comedy to be stale or forced.
