Key opinion
28 Years Later is a polarizing entry that favors experimental visual style and coming-of-age storytelling over the gritty, grounded realism of its predecessors. While many appreciate its bold departure in tone and strong performances, others find the narrative logic incoherent, the pacing inconsistent, and the shift in direction a disappointing departure from the franchise's roots.
| Acting | The cast delivers strong, capable performances that anchor the emotional stakes of the story. | |
| Cinematography | The film employs inventive, experimental iPhone-based cinematography that creates a unique and striking visual atmosphere. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative structure and character motivations are frequently cited as illogical, purposeless, or tonally inconsistent. | |
| Ending | The ending and final sequel-teasing sequences divide viewers between those who find them shockingly effective and those who label them as bizarre, 'cringe,' or tonally jarring. | |
| Originality | The shift from the gritty, urban horror of the originals to a stylized, medieval-inflected survival drama creates significant disagreement among franchise fans. |
