Key opinion
Analyze This is widely considered a successful and inventive mafia parody that benefits from the sharp chemistry between Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal. While some critics note the plot follows a predictable structure, the film is praised for balancing humor with surprisingly insightful psychological themes.
| Acting | Robert De Niro anchors the film with a masterful performance that subverts his own cinematic history of playing ruthless mobsters by imbuing the character with vulnerability and humor. | |
| Originality | The film succeeds as a genre-blending work that balances sharp, non-vulgar comedy with genuine psychological exploration, effectively parodying traditional mafia tropes. | |
| Acting | Billy Crystal delivers a sharp, neurotic performance that serves as a perfect comedic foil to De Niro's volatile mob boss character. | |
| Screenplay | The script is lauded for its witty, dialogue-driven humor that relies on the contrast between the rigid world of the mafia and the conventions of psychoanalysis. | |
| Screenplay | The simple, linear plot is seen by some as accessible and engaging, while others argue it is somewhat predictable and lacks structural complexity. | |
| Emotion | Opinions on the emotional sequences are divided; some appreciate the moments of vulnerability and pathos, while others feel these scenes clash with the film's lighter, comedic tone. |
