Key opinion
Arco is a visually striking animated adventure that draws frequent, though debated, comparisons to classic science fiction and anime aesthetics. While some viewers praise its poignant emotional core and thematic depth regarding isolation, others argue that the narrative feels derivative and overly reliant on familiar genre tropes.
| Production | The animation style offers a visually immersive experience that successfully evokes the aesthetic of acclaimed works like Studio Ghibli and Love, Death & Robots. | |
| Emotion | The friendship between the protagonists provides a strong emotional anchor that is bolstered by a poignant narrative arc for the supporting robot character. | |
| Originality | The narrative structure and character dynamics feel heavily indebted to established sci-fi conventions and Spielbergian tropes, leading to accusations of a lack of creative originality. | |
| Screenplay | While some critics find the script thin and overly reliant on pandemic-era metaphors, others appreciate the film's thoughtful pacing and its effective exploration of themes like loss and longing. |
