When an asteroid threatens to collide with Earth, NASA honcho Dan Truman determines the only way to stop it is to drill into its surface and detonate a nuclear bomb. This leads him to renowned driller Harry Stamper, who agrees to helm the dangerous space mission provided he can bring along his own hotshot crew. Among them is the cocksure A.J. who Harry thinks isn't good enough for his daughter, until the mission proves otherwise.

Armageddon is widely recognized as a quintessentially high-octane spectacle that prioritizes blockbuster entertainment and emotional impact over scientific realism. While many critics and viewers acknowledge its narrative clichés and significant plot absurdities, it remains a beloved, rewatchable staple of 90s cinema for those seeking a grandiose, action-packed experience.

Production The film utilizes high-budget visual effects and a signature Michael Bay aesthetic to deliver an exhilarating, event-filled spectacle.
Acting The cast features a charismatic and expansive ensemble that effectively grounds the film's outlandish premise.
Score The iconic soundtrack, particularly Aerosmith’s 'I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing,' successfully elevates the film’s dramatic and emotional beats.
Originality Scientific inaccuracies and plot logic are divisive; some viewers embrace the film as pure 'Bayhem,' while others find the disregard for physics and professional realism distracting.
Runtime The film’s two-and-a-half-hour runtime is a point of contention, with some finding the extensive preamble and melodramatic subplots to be exhausting, while others feel the pacing sustains suspense.
