Key opinion
Black and Blue is a standard, fast-paced police thriller that effectively utilizes its tense survival premise, even if it lacks true narrative innovation. While Naomi Harris receives consistent praise for her leading performance, the film is polarized by its derivative script and simplistic character archetypes.
| Acting | Naomie Harris anchors the film with a compelling and standout lead performance. | |
| Pacing | The film maintains high levels of tension throughout its tight, contained timeline. | |
| Originality | The plot relies heavily on familiar genre tropes and lacks a truly original premise. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is criticized for thin character development, predictable villains, and dialogue that lacks depth. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the script's logic are divided; some appreciate the visceral survival scenario, while others find the premise implausible and plagued by convenient, illogical character decisions. |
