Key opinion
Blitz is a visually polished but narratively fractured war drama that struggles to balance its ambitious historical themes with a coherent story. While some viewers appreciate the film's attempt to highlight overlooked racial dynamics in wartime London, many critics find the script superficial, overly episodic, and lacking the emotional depth expected of its subject matter.
| Acting | Elliott Heffernan delivers a promising and memorable breakthrough performance as the young protagonist. | |
| Screenplay | The film fails to offer a cohesive narrative, feeling disjointed and episodic rather than focused. | |
| Screenplay | The characters suffer from being underwritten and failing to elicit deep emotional connection. | |
| Theme | The film attempts to deconstruct wartime mythology, but views are split on whether this provides a refreshing historical perspective or feels like an exploitative and thin moralizing exercise. | |
| Cinematography | Opinions on the visual execution are divided: some praise the technical beauty and cinematography, while others criticize the aesthetic for feeling sterile or distractingly awkward. | |
| Acting | The performance of Saoirse Ronan generates disagreement, ranging from praise for her strength to criticism that the role lacks distinction and impact. |
