Key opinion
Boneyard is a poorly executed thriller that wastes its true-crime premise on a disjointed narrative and amateurish direction. While Mel Gibson’s limited screen time provides a brief spark of charisma, the film fails to overcome its clichéd writing, flat characterization, and unfinished story arcs.
| Screenplay | The script suffers from unresolved plot threads and an incomplete narrative that leaves viewers with a sense of frustration. | |
| Originality | The film relies heavily on tired genre tropes, including generic police rivalries and stereotypical character dynamics. | |
| Cinematography | The low-budget, erratic visual style shifts inconsistently between amateurish cinematography and disjointed editing, failing to establish a coherent tone. | |
| Acting | Mel Gibson is praised for providing the film's only watchable moments and charismatic presence, despite his limited screen time. | |
| Acting | Critics are divided on the overall impact of the cast; some view the involvement of recognizable stars like Gibson and 50 Cent as a failed attempt to elevate the material, while others find them to be the only highlights in an otherwise lackluster ensemble. |
