Key opinion
Hirokazu Kore-eda’s 'Broker' is a gentle, humanist drama that explores unconventional family dynamics through the lens of illegal adoption. While critics praise the nuanced performances and empathetic direction, some find the narrative structure and resolution to be lacking in clarity.
| Acting | Song Kang-ho and IU deliver powerful, nuanced performances that anchor the film's moral ambiguity. | |
| Direction | Kore-eda’s direction favors a quiet, poetic, and non-preachy observational style that brings warmth to sensitive social issues. | |
| Theme | The film successfully balances delicate themes of abandonment and human connection with occasional moments of gentle humor. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative blend of a crime-detective plot with road-movie dynamics leads to debate; some appreciate the loose mosaic structure, while others find key conflicts remain unsatisfyingly unresolved. | |
| Ending | Opinions on the ending are divided; some see it as a fitting, open-ended question of morality, while others find it ineffective and lacking closure. |
