Key opinion
Bruised is a polarizing directorial debut for Halle Berry, lauded for its raw, committed physical performance but criticized for its reliance on formulaic sports-drama tropes. While some viewers find its themes of redemption and resilience empowering, others find the narrative execution and screenplay to be cliché and disjointed.
| Acting | Halle Berry delivers a physically convincing and emotionally grounded performance that anchors the protagonist's journey. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay relies heavily on predictable underdog tropes and recycled plot points, lacking a sense of original perspective. | |
| Direction | The film's technical execution, including its direction and editing, is inconsistent and lacks a polished, distinct artistic vision. | |
| Emotion | Opinions on the emotional core are split: some find the mother-son dynamic a compelling engine for the story, while others dismiss it as shallow and overly melodramatic. |
