Key opinion
Buried is widely praised as an effective, minimalist thriller that successfully uses a singular, claustrophobic setting to generate intense suspense. While opinions on the protagonist's development and the film's plausibility vary, most critics agree that Ryan Reynolds' committed performance is the linchpin of the film's emotional impact.
| Direction | Director Rodrigo Cortés effectively maintains high tension for the entire duration using only a single, confined coffin setting. | |
| Acting | Ryan Reynolds delivers a demanding and physically visceral performance that grounds the film's extreme premise. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is praised for its clever use of limited resources and engaging dialogue, though some critics argue it relies on artificial devices or plot holes to sustain interest. | |
| Pacing | The film succeeds in creating an immersive, high-stakes atmosphere, though some viewers find the 90-minute runtime feels stretched or repetitive. | |
| Ending | The ambiguous and shocking conclusion serves as a powerful emotional climax for most, while others criticize it as being narratively unsatisfying. |
