Key opinion
Caddyshack is widely regarded as a quintessential 80s cult comedy that relies heavily on its star-studded SNL cast and nostalgia value. While it achieved massive success and cultural status upon release, contemporary audiences and critics often find its plot structure disjointed and its humor inconsistent by modern standards.
| Acting | The ensemble cast, featuring legends like Bill Murray and Chevy Chase, remains the film's most enduring and entertaining asset. | |
| Screenplay | The script suffers from a lack of cohesive structure, resulting in a disjointed narrative that feels more like a collection of sketches than a unified story. | |
| Humor | The humor relies on crude, slapstick, and vulgar gags that delight fans of 80s raunch-comedy but often fall flat or feel dated to more modern sensibilities. | |
| Pacing | The film's pacing is uneven, with viewers frequently noting that the energy declines significantly in the second half as the narrative focus drifts. | |
| Direction | While some enjoy the fragmented, chaotic style as a distinctive trait of the era, others view it as a symptom of a weak and under-developed directorial vision. |
