Key opinion
Cage Dive is widely criticized as a poorly executed, unoriginal entry in the shark-thriller genre that fails to capture the tension of its predecessors. While some viewers acknowledge the adequate technical depiction of the sharks, the consensus highlights a combination of irritating characters, an absurd screenplay, and frustrating handheld camerawork.
| Screenplay | The characters are consistently described as unlikable, flat, and prone to making irrational, frustrating decisions. | |
| Cinematography | The reliance on shaky, found-footage cinematography often obscures the action and proves physically exhausting or distracting for the viewer. | |
| Originality | The plot is widely viewed as derivative, borrowing heavily from other films in the genre without offering any narrative innovation. | |
| Acting | The performances from the lead cast are frequently cited as unconvincing and unable to elevate the thin material. | |
| Production | The portrayal of the sharks, utilizing both practical and CGI effects, is considered technically competent even when the surrounding film is not. | |
| Pacing | Opinions on the pacing vary, as some viewers appreciate the attempt at dramatic buildup while others find the slow, filler-heavy segments tedious and boring. |
