Key opinion
Cannonball Run II is widely regarded as a repetitive, inferior follow-up that relies heavily on its star-studded cast to mask a thin script. While some viewers find its chaotic energy and absurd humor charmingly nostalgic, most critics and audiences agree that it fails to evolve beyond its predecessor.
| Originality | The film functions as a pale imitation of the original, failing to introduce meaningful narrative growth or improvement. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is widely criticized as weak, relying on repetitive gags and forced vulgarity rather than clever writing. | |
| Acting | The film relies on a massive ensemble cast of stars, who generally provide a familiar, relaxed presence despite lacking compelling character arcs. | |
| Pacing | The pacing is disrupted by poorly executed editing that diminishes the dynamism and excitement of the central car races. | |
| Humor | The humor is divisive; some appreciate the chaotic, absurd antics of the supporting comedians, while others find the jokes tired and increasingly unfunny. |
