Key opinion
Cold Eyes is a technically proficient and stylish police procedural that excels in its depictions of surveillance work and tension. However, the film is polarized by its thin character development and a narrative conclusion that many critics find underwhelming or contrived.
| Direction | The film succeeds as a sleek, high-tension procedural that effectively emphasizes the intellectual and mechanical precision of surveillance work. | |
| Acting | The core performances, particularly from Chon Woo-sung as the cold, charismatic villain and Sol Gyoung-gu as the veteran lead, provide a strong anchor for the narrative. | |
| Cinematography | Critics are divided on the cinematography: some praise its dynamic, craft-heavy tracking shots and modern visual style, while others find the constant camera movement distracting or overly reminiscent of a music video. | |
| Screenplay | The script is heavily criticized for its flat character psychology, relying on superficial archetypes that prevent the audience from forming a meaningful emotional connection. | |
| Ending | The ending creates significant disagreement, with many viewers finding the final shootout and resolution to be clunky, contrived, and a disappointing comedown from the film's earlier tension. |
