Key opinion
Couples Retreat is a polarizing romantic comedy that draws praise for its picturesque Bora Bora setting and a charismatic ensemble cast, particularly Jean Reno. While some viewers find it an engaging and mood-lifting exploration of marital challenges, others criticize the film for its predictable, cliché-ridden screenplay and reliance on tasteless humor.
| Acting | Jean Reno delivers an outstanding and charismatic performance that elevates the film despite the material. | |
| Production | The exotic Bora Bora setting provides vibrant, high-quality production design that succeeds in offering an escapist atmosphere. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the screenplay are divided: some find the relatable exploration of multi-generational marriage troubles refreshing, while others dismiss the plot as predictable, shallow, and overly formulaic. | |
| Humor | The humor is polarizing, with some viewers enjoying the lighthearted, energetic tone, while others find the jokes crude, primitive, or occasionally tasteless. | |
| Acting | The cast's chemistry is debated; while many appreciate the ensemble effort, others feel the actors are relegated to one-dimensional types or are underutilized in their roles. |
