Key opinion
Coutures presents a divisive exploration of fashion industry lives, balancing documentary-style intimacy against narrative thinness. While some viewers admire its raw, unvarnished portrait of vulnerability, others criticize its lack of character development and implausible plot moments.
| Acting | Angelina Jolie provides a grounded, unflinching performance that highlights the film's commitment to portraying physical and emotional vulnerability. | |
| Direction | Director Alice Vinokur successfully avoids authorial pretension by adopting an observational, documentary-like style that gives space to the characters' realities. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative fails to provide substantial character arcs, leaving key figures feeling like mere archetypes rather than fully realized individuals. | |
| Screenplay | The film's commitment to naturalistic, 'unvarnished' dialogue creates a sense of truth for some viewers, while others find the script empty and unengaging. | |
| Screenplay | Some viewers find the film's reliance on specific plot coincidences and implausible industry scenarios detrimental to the overall credibility of the drama. | |
| Theme | The film's focus on existential questions about life and reality is viewed by some as an insightful exploration of human fragility, while others dismiss the philosophical revelations as shallow. |
