Key opinion
Criminal is widely viewed as a formulaic, uneven thriller that relies heavily on its star-studded cast to compensate for a weak and often illogical screenplay. While some audiences find the performances and the emotional premise engaging, others dismiss the film as a hollow, predictable action movie that fails to capitalize on its high-concept sci-fi premise.
| Acting | Kevin Costner anchors the film with a compelling, understated performance as a ruthless criminal forced to reconcile conflicting identities. | |
| Acting | The supporting cast—including Gal Gadot, Gary Oldman, and Tommy Lee Jones—delivers strong, credible work that elevates a largely mediocre script. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is burdened by significant plot holes, implausible twists, and an underdeveloped sci-fi premise that lacks internal logic. | |
| Pacing | The film's pacing is polarizing; some viewers find the swift tempo and emotional focus engaging, while others feel the progression is either sluggish or disjointed. | |
| Ending | Opinions on the ending are divided: some find the emotional resolution deeply touching, while others see it as a clichéd or sentimental drift from the thriller tone. |
