Key opinion
Deep Blue Sea 2 is widely dismissed by audiences and critics as a cheap, unnecessary, and inferior cash-grab that fails to live up to its predecessor. The film is criticized for its derivative plot, wooden performances, and poor technical execution, offering almost no value even as a B-movie.
| Acting | The acting is consistently described as wooden, subpar, and lacking the charisma of the original film's cast. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is viewed as a lazy, incoherent rehash of the 1999 original that swaps logical character motivations for nonsensical, cliché-ridden plots. | |
| Production | The production design is characterized as cheap and repetitive, relying on poorly lit, recycled corridors and unconvincing visual effects. | |
| Pacing | The pacing is divisive; while some find the film boring and slow until the halfway point, others criticize the lack of meaningful tension throughout the runtime. |
