Key opinion
Anders Thomas Jensen returns with a characteristically chaotic yet deeply resonant blend of dark comedy and poignant family drama. By juxtaposing absurdist humor with themes of trauma and identity, the film offers a unique, if tonally volatile, exploration of the human condition.
| Acting | The leads, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Mads Mikkelsen, anchor the film with powerful, nuanced performances that effectively balance the narrative's emotional weight. | |
| Direction | The director skillfully employs animated fable sequences to externalize internal trauma, creating a striking contrast between heroic fantasy and gritty reality. | |
| Theme | The narrative successfully interrogates complex themes of individuality, guilt, and the pursuit of normalcy through a lens of biting social satire. | |
| Humor | The film’s genre-defying tone shifts from slapstick black comedy to visceral violence, creating a polarizing experience for viewers depending on their tolerance for sudden shifts. |
