Key opinion
Der Tiger is a contemplative and philosophical war drama that prioritizes internal psychological struggle over historical accuracy. While some viewers criticize its absurd plot and reliance on genre clichés, others praise its unique, anti-war introspection and moody, atmospheric execution.
| Emotion | The film succeeds in depicting the visceral horror of war through its stark portrayal of civilian suffering and moral decay. | |
| Production | The tank serves as an effective, claustrophobic cocoon that highlights the psychological isolation and guilt of the crew. | |
| Score | The musical score and overall sound design effectively build a dense, Tarkovsky-esque atmosphere. | |
| Theme | The film abandons traditional heroics in favor of a grim, self-critical exploration of duty and orders. | |
| Ending | The narrative is deeply polarizing: some appreciate the abstract, philosophical ending as a catalyst for reflection, while others find it to be an inconsistent and jarring shift in tone. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the plot are divided; supporters value the film's surreal, dreamlike departure from reality, whereas critics view the mission's absurdity as logically thin and inferior to comparable genre entries like Fury. |
