Key opinion
Dog Bites Dog is a grim, relentlessly brutal action-thriller that focuses on the animalistic nature of its protagonists. While praised for its raw intensity and powerful performances, it polarizes viewers due to its unrelentingly dark tone and structural choices.
| Acting | Edison Chen delivers a captivating, near-silent performance that anchors the film with raw emotion and animalistic intensity. | |
| Pacing | The film effectively sustains a high-tension, unrelenting pace that mirrors the brutal survival instincts of its characters. | |
| Cinematography | The cinematography is divisive; some appreciate its gritty, atmospheric style, while others criticize the poor lighting and visibility that obscures character identities. | |
| Theme | The narrative's focus on violence is polarizing: some viewers appreciate the visceral, unflinching depiction of cruelty, while others find the lack of psychological depth and overwhelming nihilism excessive. | |
| Screenplay | The romantic subplots and sentimental character arcs are criticized as dragging the narrative or feeling forced within the otherwise bleak tone. |
