Key opinion
Dreamland is a visually evocative period drama that captures the aesthetic of the 1930s Dust Bowl, anchored by a strong performance from Margot Robbie. However, the film struggles with a predictable and underdeveloped screenplay, leading to a polarized reception regarding its slow, deliberate pacing.
| Acting | Margot Robbie delivers a radiant performance that effectively anchors the film's emotional and narrative focus. | |
| Cinematography | The cinematography successfully captures the sun-scorched, dusty atmosphere of the Great Depression era. | |
| Pacing | The film's deliberate, lingering pacing is praised by some as an emotional conduit but dismissed by others as overlong and empty. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is widely criticized for being simplistic, predictable, and failing to develop its underlying thematic ideas. | |
| Originality | The film is viewed by some as an uninspired imitation of Terrence Malick’s work that lacks the intended cosmic or emotional depth. |
