Description
In the future, America is a dystopian wasteland. The latest scourge is Ma-Ma, a prostitute-turned-drug pusher with a dangerous new drug and aims to take over the city. The only possibility of stopping her is an elite group of urban police called Judges, who combine the duties of judge, jury and executioner to deliver a brutal brand of swift justice. But even the top-ranking Judge, Dredd, discovers that taking down Ma-Ma isn’t as easy as it seems in this explosive adaptation of the hugely popular comic series.

Key opinion
Dredd (2012) is widely regarded as a superior, more faithful adaptation of the original comics compared to the 1995 predecessor. While critics and audiences note its narrative simplicity and thin character development, they generally praise the film's gritty atmosphere, effective action, and technical execution.
| Acting | Karl Urban’s committed performance and decision to keep the helmet on capture the essence of the character far better than the 1995 adaptation. | |
| Adaptation | The film succeeds as a more faithful and tonally accurate adaptation of the source material's violent, fascist aesthetic. | |
| Cinematography | The technical integration of slow-motion effects and the immersive soundtrack successfully elevate the film's visual and sensory impact. | |
| Production | The narrative focus on a single, high-stakes siege within a mega-skyscraper provides an effective, streamlined action environment, though some feel it lacks the sprawling scale of the comic's Mega-City One. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the screenplay are divided; some appreciate the focus on a lean, survivalist premise, while others find the plotting repetitive and lacking in thematic depth. |
