The residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. It's then up to mining engineer Chris McCormack and Sheriff Sam Parker to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople, including the Sheriff's young son, Mike, her daughter, Ashley, and paranoid radio announcer Harlan, into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts.

Eight Legged Freaks is widely viewed as a lighthearted, B-movie homage to 1950s creature features that prioritizes spectacle over narrative substance. Opinions on its success as a genre hybrid are sharply divided, with supporters finding it a fun, campy romp and detractors dismissing it as unfunny, incoherent, and failing as both horror and comedy.

Originality The film functions primarily as a nostalgic, tongue-in-cheek homage to classic 1950s monster movies.
Production The CGI spiders are consistently highlighted as a successful and entertaining visual centerpiece of the film.
Screenplay The screenplay relies heavily on predictable cliches, thin characterization, and a paper-thin plot.
Acting The acting is perceived either as suitably committed to the B-movie tone or as wooden, irritating, and over-the-top.
Emotion The blend of horror and comedy is divisive, with some finding it a clever, organic mix and others criticizing it for being neither frightening nor genuinely funny.
