Key opinion
Enter the Fat Dragon is a lighthearted, nostalgic homage to classic Hong Kong action cinema that succeeds primarily through Donnie Yen's inventive choreography. While the plot is straightforward and the humor is hit-or-miss for some, the film provides a satisfying experience for fans of martial arts stunt work.
| Acting | Donnie Yen delivers masterclass-level fight choreography that upholds and advances the standards of classic Hong Kong stunt cinema. | |
| Originality | The film effectively channels the spirit of 80s martial arts classics through direct homages to Bruce Lee, Sammo Hung, and Jackie Chan. | |
| Acting | Donnie Yen demonstrates surprising versatility and comedic timing, breaking away from his established stoic 'Ip Man' persona. | |
| Pacing | The film's tone is uneven, as viewers remain divided on whether the shift from dialogue-heavy, jokey humor in the first half to action-packed sequences in the second half feels balanced or jarring. | |
| Production | Opinions on the lead character's prosthetic transformation are split, with some appreciating the tribute to Sammo Hung while others find the visual execution unconvincing or odd. |
