Key opinion
Exit Wounds is widely regarded as the final major, high-budget success in Steven Seagal's career. It successfully blends traditional Seagal-style combat with a faster, modern aesthetic, supported by a prominent hip-hop soundtrack and a notable supporting cast.
| Acting | Seagal delivers one of his final physically impressive performances, performing most of his own stunts with sustained martial arts skill. | |
| Pacing | The film maintains a relentless, high-energy pace that moves quickly from opening action sequences through to its climactic shootouts. | |
| Direction | Andrzej Bartkowiak’s direction successfully modernizes the action genre by integrating slick, early-2000s spectacle with Seagal’s established fighting style. | |
| Score | The reliance on a heavy, DMX-led rap soundtrack divides viewers, with some finding it an engaging, modern touch and others viewing it as an intrusive distraction. | |
| Humor | The humor, primarily provided by Tom Arnold and Anthony Anderson, is polarizing; some appreciate the lighthearted, witty tone it brings to the narrative, while others find the comedic relief unnecessary or disruptive to the tone. |
