At 35, Tripp has an interesting job, a hip car, a passion for sailing, an active dating life, and a great house - trouble is, he still lives with his parents, Al and Sue, who are not happy about it. Al and Sue are fascinated when friends whose adult son has recently moved away from home reveal they hired an expert to help. In desperation to push Tripp out of the nest once and for all, Al and Sue hatch a plan to hire Paula, an "interventionist," who has a formula in these cases.

Failure to Launch is widely viewed as a formulaic, lighthearted romantic comedy that serves as a pleasant but forgettable one-time watch. While audiences generally appreciate the charismatic ensemble cast and pleasant visuals, critics and viewers alike agree that the film lacks originality and relies heavily on tired genre clichés.

Acting Zooey Deschanel delivers a standout, highly memorable performance that often outshines the leads.
Originality The film leans heavily on familiar romantic-comedy tropes and lacks a unique narrative perspective.
Theme The premise of adult children living with their parents remains a relatable and relevant thematic core, even if the execution feels shallow.
Acting Opinions on the lead performances are divided; some find the chemistry between McConaughey and Parker charming, while others feel they lack connection or are miscast.
Humor Reactions to the humor vary, as some find the slapstick and animal-related gags genuinely funny, while others feel the comedy is weak and rarely lands.
