Key opinion
Farming is a biographical drama that dramatizes the director’s traumatic childhood experience within the British foster care system of the 1980s. While the premise is deeply personal and compelling, the execution is widely considered underdeveloped and lacking the gritty, authentic impact of similar genre films.
| Originality | The film explores a unique and harrowing piece of history regarding the 1980s British 'farming' foster scheme. | |
| Screenplay | The script is criticized for being crude, childish, and failing to provide the narrative depth required for the complex subject matter. | |
| Acting | The performances are viewed as mediocre and disconnected, with actors struggling to convincingly inhabit their roles. | |
| Direction | The film’s violence is described as theatrical and artificial, failing to achieve the gritty, raw authenticity found in comparable films like 'This Is England'. |
