Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a polarizing, visually inventive cult classic that prioritizes the sensory experience of a drug-fueled journey over a traditional narrative. While some viewers find its chaotic structure and relentless intensity alienating, many others praise it as a masterful, immersive adaptation that captures the disillusionment of the American Dream.

Acting Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro deliver exceptional, immersive performances that define the film's chaotic energy and character dynamics.
Direction Terry Gilliam’s direction successfully translates the surreal, episodic nature of the source material into a distinctive, high-energy visual experience.
Cinematography The cinematography and sound design are highly effective in conveying the film's hallucinatory atmosphere and the protagonists' altered states of consciousness.
Theme The film functions as a tragicomic exploration of the American Dream and the failure of the 1960s counterculture, rather than a mere glorification of drug use.
Screenplay Opinions on the screenplay are divided: fans appreciate the faithful adaptation of the erratic, plotless novel, while others find the narrative aimless and confusing.
Pacing Viewers are split on the experience of the film; some find it a captivating, rewatchable masterpiece, while others find its overwhelming, drug-fueled intensity difficult to sit through or rewatch.
