Key opinion
Forsaken is a traditional, nostalgic Western that relies heavily on the authentic chemistry of real-life father and son Donald and Kiefer Sutherland. While the film is frequently criticized for its banal, cliché-ridden plot, many viewers appreciate its skillful execution and classic genre appeal.
| Acting | The authentic real-life dynamic between Donald and Kiefer Sutherland provides a compelling emotional anchor for the film. | |
| Originality | The film leans heavily on well-worn Western tropes like the prodigal son and the retired gunslinger, leading to a predictable and unoriginal narrative. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative structure and character motivations rely on genre clichés that feel familiar and uninspired. | |
| Pacing | The pacing and structure satisfy fans of traditional, slower-burn Westerns, while others find the film’s execution and stakes underwhelming for its budget. |
