Key opinion
Frequency is widely praised as an emotionally resonant blend of time-travel science fiction and crime thriller. While some critics note scientific inconsistencies or a predictable narrative, the strong chemistry between leads Dennis Quaid and James Caviezel makes it a compelling and sincere experience.
| Acting | Dennis Quaid and James Caviezel deliver powerful, believable performances that anchor the central father-son relationship. | |
| Direction | Gregory Hoblit maintains a tight, well-crafted structure that effectively balances the dual timelines of 1969 and 1999. | |
| Emotion | The emotional core of the film effectively taps into themes of grief, family reconciliation, and the human desire to alter the past. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay masterfully weaves together a high-stakes serial killer investigation with an intimate family drama. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the script's logic are divided; some appreciate the narrative premise for its emotional payoff, while others find the reliance on coincidences and scientific loopholes frustrating. | |
| Ending | The film’s tone is split between those who find the optimistic, happy-ending resolution satisfying and those who view it as a generic, overly sentimental conclusion. |
