Key opinion
Get Smart is generally regarded as a light, entertaining, and family-friendly spy parody that succeeds largely due to the chemistry between Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. While some viewers find the plot routine and the humor hit-or-miss, most appreciate its avoidance of low-brow gags in favor of witty, character-driven comedy.
| Acting | Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway establish a strong comedic partnership that serves as the film's primary strength. | |
| Humor | The film successfully avoids crude, low-brow, or toilet-based humor in favor of more refined comedic interactions. | |
| Direction | Peter Segal’s direction effectively balances the nostalgic spirit of the original TV series with contemporary action-comedy expectations. | |
| Humor | Opinions on the comedy are divided; while many find the humor lively and consistently funny, detractors argue it relies on clichéd gags and fails to deliver genuine, memorable laughs. | |
| Screenplay | The plot is a point of contention; some praise it as an engaging and well-constructed parody of spy tropes, while others dismiss it as generic and underdeveloped. |
