Key opinion
Getaway is widely regarded as a failed, low-budget action film that collapses under the weight of an illogical screenplay and amateurish cinematography. While a small minority of viewers enjoyed the relentless, mindless pace, the consensus among critics and audiences remains that the film is a lackluster and repetitive experience.
| Cinematography | The film’s reliance on excessive camera shaking and cheap GoPro-style footage creates a nauseating, amateurish aesthetic that lacks visual quality. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is criticized for being a nonsensical, repetitive collection of illogical mission-style objectives that lack character depth and believable motivations. | |
| Acting | The lead duo of Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez is widely seen as lacking chemistry, with critics labeling Hawke as miscast and Gomez as ineffective or overly decorative. | |
| Direction | Courtney Solomon’s direction is characterized as lazy and uninspired, failing to create genuine tension or memorable sequences despite the constant action. | |
| Pacing | The film's pacing polarizes viewers: some find the relentless, non-stop momentum to be an engaging thrill, while others experience it as a boring and exhausting slog. |
