Key opinion
Good Boy is widely regarded as a unique, dog-centric character study that succeeds as an emotional drama but falters as a traditional horror film. While the canine lead's performance is universally praised, the narrative cohesion, pacing, and execution of supernatural scares are frequent points of contention.
| Acting | The dog Indi delivers an exceptional, highly expressive performance that serves as the film's emotional core. | |
| Cinematography | Director Ben Leonberg successfully uses low-angle, dog-perspective cinematography to create an intimate, atmospheric sense of presence. | |
| Theme | The film functions far better as an allegory for terminal illness and unconditional love than as a functional horror thriller. | |
| Screenplay | The narrative suffers from a weak, underdeveloped plot that relies too heavily on its gimmick to sustain interest. | |
| Originality | The horror elements are divisive: some find the restraint and psychological focus refreshing, while others dismiss the film as tedious, predictable, and devoid of actual scares. | |
| Pacing | The runtime and pacing are polarized; some viewers appreciate the contemplative, slow-burn approach, while others find the film exhausting, repetitive, and poorly paced in its climax. |
