Key opinion
Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is generally viewed as a weaker, less imaginative sequel that fails to capture the wit and charm of its predecessor. While it provides a harmless, family-friendly experience that younger children may enjoy, most critics find the plot predictable, the acting uninspired, and the overall execution lacking in tension or originality.
| Accessibility | The film functions as a harmless, accessible option for younger viewers seeking a mild, family-friendly Halloween experience. | |
| Acting | The performance of the possessed doll Slappy stands out as the most engaging and charismatic element of the film. | |
| Originality | The narrative feels derivative and formulaic, failing to establish its own identity or maintain the emotional engagement of the first film. | |
| Production | The production relies on generic, television-style visuals and mediocre creature effects that make the monsters appear as people in costumes rather than threats. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the screenplay are divided: some appreciate the simple, easy-to-follow story and the inclusion of a promising cliffhanger, while others dismiss the writing as a disjointed series of clichés and illogical plot points. | |
| Acting | The role of Jack Black is a point of contention; some view his limited cameo as a necessary highlight that briefly saves the project, while others criticize the film for sidelining his character compared to the original. |
