Key opinion
Raw is widely recognized as a bold, visceral art-house horror film that uses cannibalism as a metaphor for maturation, sexual awakening, and the loss of innocence. While many critics praise its confident direction and thematic depth, it remains polarizing due to its explicit, often repulsive imagery and unconventional narrative structure.
| Acting | Garance Marillier delivers a fearless and compelling performance that anchors the film’s psychological descent. | |
| Cinematography | The cinematography is visually stunning, effectively establishing an atmosphere of cold detachment that complements the disturbing subject matter. | |
| Theme | The film successfully balances its graphic, grisly sequences with a sharp, darkly comedic coming-of-age tone. | |
| Pacing | The film's pacing is a subject of disagreement: some find the contemplative, lingering scenes essential for tone, while others view them as indulgent and narratively sluggish. | |
| Screenplay | Opinions on the screenplay are divided: supporters see a logical, allegorical exploration of identity, while detractors dismiss the plot as disjointed, filler-heavy, or fundamentally trashy. |
