Key opinion
Greyhound is widely viewed as a lean, taut naval thriller that succeeds in creating an immersive, high-tension experience through its 90-minute runtime. However, it is consistently criticized for shallow character development and significant historical or tactical inaccuracies regarding U-boat warfare.
| Runtime | The 90-minute runtime provides a tight, focused narrative that effectively maintains immediacy and constant tension. | |
| Acting | Tom Hanks delivers a solid, restrained performance that grounds the film, though the script denies him the depth to create a truly memorable character. | |
| Screenplay | The action choreography and U-boat tactics are frequently criticized as unrealistic, fanciful, or inconsistent with established naval history. | |
| Production | Opinions on the visual effects are divided; while some praise the vividness of the sea battles, others find the CGI artificial, reminiscent of video games, and lacking in emotional weight. |
