Key opinion
Halloween Kills is widely regarded as a visually polished but narratively hollow bridge between chapters. While fans of graphic slasher violence and John Carpenter's iconic score may find merit, many critics lament the transition from the grounded tension of the 2018 film to a disorganized, illogical spectacle.
| Score | The atmospheric score composed by John Carpenter remains a high point that effectively captures the franchise's classic dread. | |
| Originality | The film significantly increases the frequency and brutality of on-screen kills, delivering a spectacle that satisfies those seeking pure, unrelenting gore. | |
| Theme | The portrayal of Michael Myers as an invincible, supernatural force rather than a grounded antagonist creates logical inconsistencies and diminishes the narrative stakes. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is criticized for being a bloated transitional installment that relies on thin plot devices and repetitive, cliché-ridden dialogue to justify its runtime. | |
| Theme | The shift in focus toward the town's collective hysteria and vigilante justice is polarizing: some appreciate the attempt at social commentary, while others find the characters' irrational behavior frustrating and absurd. |
