Key opinion
Haunted is widely regarded as a visually elegant, atmospheric supernatural drama rather than a traditional horror film, favored by those who appreciate psychological tension over gore. While its aesthetic and performances are frequently praised, opinions on the narrative strength and the impact of the final twist remain polarized.
| Production | The film excels in building an eerie, immersive mood through its gothic production design and polished cinematography. | |
| Acting | Kate Beckinsale delivers a mesmerizing and enigmatic performance that serves as the emotional and magnetic center of the film. | |
| Originality | The film eschews jump scares and visceral gore in favor of a slow-burning, psychological approach to the supernatural. | |
| Pacing | The contemplative, slow-paced narrative rewards viewers seeking a classic gothic mystery, but leaves others feeling bored or noting a lack of forward momentum. | |
| Ending | The climactic twist is viewed by some as a profound and satisfying resolution, while others find it predictable or derivative of later genre staples like The Sixth Sense. |
