Key opinion
Holmes & Watson is a polarizing parody that attempts to translate Will Ferrell's brand of absurdist, sketch-style humor into a feature-length film. While some viewers enjoy its deliberate silliness and production design, most critics and audiences find it a largely unfunny, disjointed, and vulgar failure.
| Production | Production design and costumes are widely praised for their high quality and attention to detail, even by those who otherwise disliked the film. | |
| Humor | The comedic success of the film is deeply divisive: proponents appreciate the high-concept absurdity and specific stylistic parodies, while detractors find the humor to be crude, recycled, and lacking in wit. | |
| Pacing | The film's pacing is frequently criticized as dragging, with critics noting that its thin, sketch-like premise struggles to sustain a feature-length runtime. | |
| Screenplay | The script is viewed as disorganized and lacking in cohesion, failing to weave its isolated, hit-or-miss gags into a functional narrative. | |
| Acting | The acting is a point of contention, with some viewers enjoying the leads' signature dynamic, while others feel the talented ensemble is wasted on shallow, poorly written characters. |
