Key opinion
Independence Day: Resurgence is widely viewed as a hollow spectacle that prioritizes visual effects over narrative substance. While some audiences appreciate it as competent popcorn entertainment, the consensus is that it lacks the charm and character depth of the 1996 original.
| Production | Spectacular visual effects and scale are the film's only consistent strengths | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay relies heavily on tired genre clichés and lacks logical coherence | |
| Acting | Returning cast members provide a welcome sense of nostalgia, though the new characters remain largely underdeveloped | |
| Emotion | The film fails to recapture the emotional impact and gravitas of the original installment | |
| Originality | Opinions on the film's value are divided between those who enjoy it as mindless popcorn entertainment and those who find it a cynical, unnecessary addition to the franchise |
