Key opinion
Iron Man 2 is generally regarded as a flawed but entertaining blockbuster that relies heavily on Robert Downey Jr.'s charismatic lead performance. While opinions on the action sequences and humor are largely positive, many critics feel the plot is unfocused and ultimately functions more as a setup for future MCU entries than a standalone story.
| Acting | Robert Downey Jr. delivers a consistent and compelling performance that remains the emotional anchor of the film. | |
| Screenplay | The film functions primarily as a bridge to the Avengers franchise, often at the expense of a coherent, self-contained narrative. | |
| Direction | Action sequences, particularly the Monaco Grand Prix, provide high-energy spectacle that serves as a highlight for many viewers. | |
| Pacing | The pacing is viewed as problematic, with some finding the two-hour runtime bloated and disjointed, while others appreciate the inclusion of character-driven moments. | |
| Screenplay | Villains like Ivan Vanko and Justin Hammer spark debate; some find them entertaining and menacing, while others view them as underdeveloped or stereotypical. | |
| Originality | Critics are divided on the film's overall quality; some appreciate the humor and spectacle as an improvement on the original, while others find the script messy and inferior to the 2008 predecessor. |
