Key opinion
Jade is widely regarded as a hollow, unsuccessful attempt to replicate the success of Basic Instinct. Critics and audiences alike criticize its derivative screenplay and lack of tension, despite a significant production budget.
| Screenplay | The screenplay functions as an uninspired and derivative copy of Basic Instinct that fails to justify its own existence. | |
| Originality | The erotic thriller elements feel asexual, unconvincing, and fail to generate the intended seductive tension. | |
| Pacing | The film suffers from a lack of narrative momentum, with many viewers finding the pacing sluggish and the second half notably dragging. | |
| Acting | Opinions on David Caruso’s lead performance are divided; some praise his methodical approach as a highlight, while others argue his presence lacks the necessary charisma for a feature-film lead. |
