Kicking & Screaming is widely regarded as a generic and uninspired sports comedy that relies heavily on formulaic tropes. While some viewers enjoy the comedic pairing of Will Ferrell and Mike Ditka, others find the film's humor crude, the performances lackluster, and the tone unsuitable for its intended family audience.

Originality The film recycles predictable plot beats from established sports comedies like The Mighty Ducks, failing to offer any original narrative substance.
Acting The comedic chemistry between Will Ferrell and Mike Ditka provides a rare source of amusement amidst an otherwise dull script.
Humor The film's reliance on crude jokes and displays of aggression makes the intended family-friendly tone feel inappropriate for younger viewers.
Acting Opinions on Will Ferrell’s performance are polarized: some viewers find him hilarious and perfectly cast, while others view his work as a lazy, generic improvisation that lacks depth.
