Key opinion
Kill the Irishman is a gritty, period-authentic crime drama that succeeds largely due to Ray Stevenson's commanding portrayal of Danny Greene. While the film is praised by many for its realistic atmosphere and strong supporting cast, it is frequently criticized for a disjointed script and a narrative structure that fails to reach the heights of the classic mob epics it attempts to emulate.
| Acting | Ray Stevenson delivers a powerful, charismatic, and authentic performance that serves as the film's anchor. | |
| Production | The production design and costumes effectively and realistically recreate the atmosphere of 1970s Cleveland. | |
| Acting | The supporting ensemble, featuring Walken, Kilmer, and D'Onofrio, provides familiar, high-quality acting, even if some roles feel underutilized. | |
| Screenplay | The script is hampered by a disjointed narrative and a lack of a clear, cohesive character arc for the protagonist. | |
| Theme | Opinions on the film's narrative weight are divided; some appreciate the grounded, street-level realism, while others feel it lacks the epic scale and depth required to compete with legendary mafia films. |
