Key opinion
Knox Goes Away is a character-driven, melancholic drama that prioritizes emotional resonance and family dynamics over traditional action-thriller beats. While opinions on the depiction of dementia and the film's pacing vary, the central performance by Michael Keaton is widely praised as a haunting and sincere portrayal of a fading mind.
| Acting | Michael Keaton delivers a compelling and sincere performance that effectively captures the duality of a cold professional confronting rapid cognitive decline. | |
| Theme | The film functions primarily as a character-focused family drama, with the crime elements serving as background to themes of redemption, father-son bonds, and loss of identity. | |
| Pacing | The pacing is viewed by some as an appropriately contemplative, slow-burn experience, while others find it sluggish and in need of editing to maintain engagement. | |
| Theme | The representation of dementia is polarizing; some find Keaton's portrayal emotionally resonant and striking, whereas others feel it lacks the technical nuance and realism of superior films like 'The Father'. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay relies on predictable plot developments and overly convenient narrative resolutions that simplify the complex ethical dilemmas it introduces. |
