Trailers Rose Island

In 1968, engineer Giorgio Rosa established the independent state called "The Isle of Roses" off the coast of Rimini, built on a platform outside the territorial waters, with Esperanto as the official language. The Italian authorities did not take it well because the micronation was seen as an expedient to not pay taxes on the revenues obtained thanks to the arrival of numerous tourists and curious people.

Rose Island is an engaging, feel-good dramatization of a historical anomaly that blends elements of comedy, romance, and political critique. While it is widely praised for its uplifting tone and successful preservation of a unique piece of Italian history, it faces criticism regarding the quality of its visual effects and certain casting choices.

Originality The film succeeds in elevating a niche historical event into a compelling, worldwide narrative about the pursuit of personal freedom.
Humor The use of humor and caricature effectively captures the whimsical spirit of the protagonist's defiance against rigid state authority.
Production The visual effects are frequently cited as underwhelming and unconvincing for a modern, big-budget production.
Acting Opinions on the lead performance are split; while some find the portrayal charmingly whimsical, others argue the casting is flawed and the actor is misaligned with the character's age.
