Key opinion
Leatherface is widely regarded as a disappointing addition to the franchise that fails to provide a meaningful or coherent origin story. While some viewers appreciate the brutal aesthetic and Lily Taylor’s performance, most critics and fans find the execution marred by illogical character choices and a failure to evoke the terror of the original film.
| Emotion | The film relies on gratuitous gore and shock value, such as necrophilia, rather than building genuine psychological terror. | |
| Screenplay | The screenplay is heavily criticized for incoherent plotting, inexplicable character motivations, and logical inconsistencies that undermine the narrative. | |
| Originality | The film divides viewers; some appreciate the attempt to humanize the killer and the brutal, retro-styled atmosphere, while others argue that over-explaining the villain strips the character of his inherent, mythic menace. | |
| Acting | Lily Taylor delivers a standout performance that provides the film with its most compelling, albeit dark, emotional anchor. | |
| Pacing | The pacing is inconsistent, often struggling to transition between a slow-burn drama in the first half and a farcical, chaotic final act. |
